This week in art!

Art I  has wrapped up their unit on symmetry and completed their SYMMETRICAL WORD DESIGNS . We discussed the different lines of symmetry and the fact that this project uses both RADIAL and MIRROR SYMMETRY.

For the next couple weeks they will be working on Paper Mache' Face Jug Masks. For more information on the history and origins of Face Jugs or "Ugly Mugs",  CLICK HERE !

3 masks will be selected to be featured in the Face Jug Exhibit at the Johnson Center from October 22- November 3.

Art II is finishing up drawings inspired Grant Wood's painting of American Gothic painted in 1930. Their assignment was to draw a "modern day" version of this iconic painting.

While it might seem like a married couple here,
this was actually Wood's sister and dentist.

Needless to say there have been some INTERESTING interpretations so far....photos to come!

Classic 'American Gothic' parody with
the iconic Mickey & Minnie Mouse

In Memory of Demario Harris

Pike Liberal Arts will be collecting donations for the Harris family in the wake of their son's unexpected death. If each student and teacher donates $1 we will be able to raise at least $500 for the family.  Money will be collected in Homeroom or the main office.

Please be in prayer for the CHHS community and the Harris family during this difficult time.

Full steam ahead!

ART I

This week in Art I we are continuing our unit on VALUE and are working on collage torn paper portraits. They have painted a value scale and are using that scale to create a good range of VALUE in their portraits. Finished products to come!

7th grade practiced their realistic drawing
 and shading techniques
7th Grade "painting with paper"

Humanitites - 11th Grade

Here is a quick look at just a couple of the projects we have completed so far. We kicked off the school year with a unit on Graffiti and discussed elements of graffiti. We also looked at the history and different "styles" of graffiti. After getting some inspiration from New York street artists, the students were able to create their own solar system done entirely out of spray paint. They turned out AWESOME!

Journalism

A new year means a new Journalism team! We will soon begin writing feature stories soon and you can follow our blog updates on THE PATRIOT POST. Here is the link to our blog ---------> The Patriot Post

On September 25th we will be attending "J-Day" hosted by the Troy University Journalism Department.

Art II

The past two weeks, we have been discussing radial balance and the 9th grade has been working on Mandala Designs. Our next project will be Pop Art inspired self portraits in the style of Roy Lichtenstein.

Here is just a sneak peak of some of the beautiful designs the students have created. All of them are on display near the front office...come take a look at our artists' work!
